Most freeze dried treats have a high calorie content. This is because the process of freeze drying food removes all of the water content which results in an intensely concentrated food source with a higher calorie count per serving than their original form.

A lot of people are starting to feed their cats or dogs with raw food diets due to nutritional value at raw state. Opting for freeze dried raw diet is as good as raw.  Freeze dried raw meat still has high nutrients intact and tastiness minus the inconvenience of preparing raw meat.

Dehydration removes approximately 80% percent of moisture, while freeze drying removes about 99 percent of dog treats.

Dehydration is one of the oldest methods of food preservation. Vitamins and minerals are destroyed by heat and air during the process.

Freeze drying is rather a new technology of food preservation with longer shelf life due to low to no moisture content in food. Vitamin and nutrient are mostly intact during freeze drying and the process is done gently with low temperature.

Freeze drying preserves more of the nutritional content of the food than dehydrating, as proteins, vitamins, and minerals stay intact due to the gentler process method.

You actually don't even have to rehydrate the treats for your cat or dog to enjoy them – they're delicious as a crunchy snack in their freeze dried state. However, it's easy to rehydrate produce to eat cooked or to add to recipes. Just place it in a bowl of water and let it soak until it's rehydrated.

Rehydration: Freeze dried treats will rehydrate within 2 to 3 minutes while dehydrated treats often take 10 to 12 minutes for the same size treats.

There are many benefits to feeding your cat or dog with freeze dried meat treats as topping. These toppings are very convenient for the owner because they don't have to deal with the hassle of cooking or preparing too much during meal time. Some cat or dog owners might think that using freeze dried treats as a topping is not acceptable. On the contrary, this is a fast and easy way to make an ordinary carbohydrate diet (brown rice, sweet potato, etc.) or kibble diet more exciting.

If you are feeding your cat or dog unhealthy foods, it will most likely not be good for them in the long run. It is best to feed your cat or dog healthy and nutrient-rich food like freeze dried meats as topping occasionally.

If you want to know if your cat or dog will like a given treats as topping, it is a good idea to introduce the topping slowly. This will help your cat or dog build up a tolerance to the new topping you have prepared.

If you use freeze dried treats you can store it in it's original resealable packaging at room temperature or best, keep in refrigeration to retain it’s freshness and crunchiness. For best results (yummiest taste and most potent smell), it's best to use freeze dried treats within 14 days after opening.
